摘要

Acute phase proteins (APPs) are liver-derived proteins whose normal concentration may change after different events just as infection, tissue injury, trauma or an imbalanced homeostasis. Cytokines are considered as the main source of stimulus to hepatocytes for the synthesis of APPs, specifically, the pro-inflammatory cytokines IL-1, IL-6 and TNFa (4). In pigs, Haptoglobin (Hp), C reactive protein (CRP) and serum amyloid A (SAA) are considered as major APPs, since their concentration may be increased ten times after any injury, whereas the significance of Pig Major Acute Protein (PigMAP) seems to be controversial being considered as a moderate APP (3).
