As semen is widely disseminated for artificial insemination and the reproductive diseases transmitted by AI semen can cause significant health and economic consequences, it is important to control diseases in the pigs at AI centers. Sero-monitoring provides very important clues for the control of viral infections causing abortion and stillbirth. PCR/RT-PCR is one of the most sensitive, rapid and specific methods to detect viruses. However, the concentration and duration of virus shedding in semen does not correlate with the quantity or duration of virus in serum(l). The purpose of this study is to compare viral antigens causing abortion and stillbirth in semen with antibodies in serum of boars in Korean AI centers.
