Method of Analysis for the Identification of Air Freight Potential in an Industrial Region – A German Case Study

In these times of globalisation, the air transport market is one of the fastest growing markets in the transportation business. The most important factor influencing the growth of the air freight market is the development of international trade and the global economy. Given the growing importance of air freight, a more detailed analysis of further potential in this market segment is warranted. This study is intended to demonstrate a method of identifying future air freight potential in a given region. In order to achieve this, various indicators constituting air freight growth are examined, such as infrastructure, industry, and economies. The generation of an air freight potential model is intended to improve the performance of air freight prognoses. The study is structured as follows: First, characteristic indicators for potential air freight are shown. Subsequently, the case of a particular industrial region in Germany is examined based on existing theory.
