The article discusses the approach of evaluating and forecasting of the quickness of perception and knowledge retention by students in the system of distance education, which helps to adapt the process of learning and conduct it in the optimal way for each concrete student. The mathematical model is proposed, which takes into account the speed of learning new material, the order of the test, the level of learning material retention, dependence of the speed of learning on the speed of perception, which may be used for the system construction, what may take into account the individual student's abilities, his or her previous knowledge, capabilities, peculiarities in the perception of new material
