Online elemental analysis of rutile and zircon concentrates from mineral sands

Blending and separation methods are generally used to separate the components of heavy mineral sands, mainly the titanium minerals rutile and ilmenite (TiO_2), and the zirconium-bearing mineral zircon (ZrSiO_4). A new online elemental analyser, Courier? Dx, based on XRF spectrometry principles, has been developed for the dry sands process. The elemental analysis is used to minimize the out-of-specification rejects of the process, thus improving the recovery.
