Stirred tanks are extensively used to treat single and two phase systems in process industry, and equally effective for three phase systems including liquid-liquid-solid one. Flocculation and solid catalyzed liquid-liquid reaction are typical applications. The product quality and efficiency of these processes depend largely on the configuration and operating conditions of stirred tanks, especially the mixing performance plays a crucial role. Mixing time is therefore of vital importance for the reliable design and scale-up of liquid-liquid-solid stirred tanks.
