Shaw Environmental, Inc. performed direct injection for the U.S. Navy BRAC PMO at Treasure Island, San Francisco, California. The objectives for the project were to evaluate the effectiveness of direct-push drilling technology as a substitute to a groundwater recirculation system for the in situ bioremediation (ISB). The principal contaminants of concern are tetrachloroethene (PCE), trichloroethene (TCE), dichloroethene (DCE), and vinyl chloride (VC). Shaw started direct injection of substrate consisting of Site 21 groundwater, WilClear~R Plus lactic acid and Shaw’s a proprietary bacterial consortium SDC-9, at several locations at Site 21 on Treasure Island in February 2009.
