The cleanup of sites with groundwater impacted by chlorinated solvents in the form of dense non-aqueous phase liquids (DNAPLs) presents a challenging remediation problem. Various technologies capable of removing significant mass from DNAPL source zones with varying degrees of effectiveness have been identified and applied for this purpose. Often the best suited DNAPL remediation approach has been found to consist of several remediation technologies applied in series. This is often referred to as a “treatment train” approach.
