Research studies funded and overseen by EPA-ORD (NERL) were conducted in May 2009 on soil gas sampling methods and variations in shallow soil gas concentrations with the purpose of improving our understanding of soil gas sampling methods and data for vapor intrusion assessments and remedial planning. The study consisted of controlled experiments on soil gas collection methodology to evaluate the affect of purge and sample flow rate, purge volume, and sample volume on measured soil gas concentrations. This study was conducted at a chlorinated solvent site on Naval Air Station Lemoore, California. The vadose zone soils at this site predominantly consist of low permeability
