摘要

The accumulation or persistence of energetic compounds resulting from live-fire training with howitzers and mortars has been investigated at various locations on Alaskan training ranges since 2000. These energetic compounds include 2,4-DNT (2,4-dinitro- toluene) and NG (nitroglycerin) that are ingredients in propellants used to fire projectiles down range and TNT (2,4,6-trinitrotoluene), RDX (1,3,5-hexahydro-1,3,5-trinitro- triazine) and HMX (1,3,5,7-octahyrdo-1,3,5,7-tetrazocine) that comprise the high explo- sive filler that detonates when the projectiles hit the impact area. Data on the morphology of the energetic residues were obtained and used to develop field soil sampling and labo- ratory processesing and subsampling methods that provide mass estimates of energetic compounds within the surface soil.
