This paper presents an analysis of some of the most important characteristics of various GPS III signals, i.e., L1-C/A code, L2C, L5, and the L1C signals. These characteristics are the navigation frame error rate, probability of bit error, RMS phase tracking error, and the mean time for cycle slip in the carrier tracking loop. Performance requirements of these characteristics are then related to the minimum required carrier power to effective noise power spectral density at the GPS receiver input so as to simultaneously satisfy all requirements.
