In designing a space for acoustical performance a reference as to the target conditions is normally required to ensure an acceptable result. Computer models are commonly used for this purpose as they enable a predictive assessment of a given space at the design stage. Utilization of a computer model as a post evaluation tool provides a further point of reference for adjustment of conditions thus enabling retro fitting. Using an accurately calibrated model to reflect the actual measured environment gives the advantage of a consistent approach to the experimental conditions required. This paper discusses issues in the preparation process that normally has to account for a set of given acoustical conditions and the type of assessment intended. The utilization of third party (non-acoustics oriented) CAD software has also been advantageously implemented for efficient model generation. A generic model validation process, used to enhance consistency for different conditions, is described and results are reported.
