When the authorization of motor sport activities is subject to an environmental impact analysis, noise emissions are of course of considerable importance. However, only few scientific studies have been published on that topic. Legislation exists in some regions or countries, but it is not really harmonized at the European level, neither at the worldwide level. In this paper are first described the results of our investigations about existing approaches to the management of motor sport noise. The more advanced of these approaches combine the control of noise levels in the residential area surrounding the motor sport venue, limitation of the on-track noise emissions by some categories of vehicles and/or restriction of the number of authorized racing days. A bottom-up approach is then proposed for the management of the acoustical impact of an international racing track, including the definition of noise criteria in the immission zone, the definition of noise limits at emission that could guarantee the immission values and an annual time schedule for the motor sport events.
