APPLICATION OF BEACH-FX: WALTON COUNTY, FLORIDA HURRICANE AND STORM DAMAGE REDUCTION PROJECT

The beaches of Walton County, FL, have experienced extensive erosion resulting from hurricane and storm conditions that have impacted the shoreline in recent years. The US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Mobile District, is conducting a feasibility study to investigate, analyze and recommend solutions to provide for hurricane and storm damage protection along the coastline of Walton County, FL. This study was selected as a test bed for the recently developed Beach-fx engineering-economic Monte Carlo simulation model and is being conducted in collaboration with the US Army Engineer Research and Development Center Coastal and Hydraulics Laboratory (ERDC-CHL) and the USACE Institute for Water Resources (IWR). This paper describes the application of Beach-fx to evaluate shore protection alternatives at Walton County, FL.
