The Golf Plug-in Hybrid is the next step in the implementation of the Volkswagen electrification strategy. The model, which will be appearing in 2014, has a lithium-ion battery system that provides a range of up to approximately 50 km when driving with the 80 kW electric motor. A 1.4-litre, 110 kW TSI engine is integrated into the drive train for hybrid operation, which, in combination with the electric machine, ensures dynamic response and sporty performance. Power is transmitted from both drives via a newly developed dual-clutch gearbox with the designation DQ400E. With the Golf Plug-in Hybrid, Volkswagen is promoting further development of the modular matrix for electrified drive trains, the components of which are designed modularly and scalably. Thanks to its broadly based strategy, the Group is in a position to develop and manufacture new electrified models in various performance levels in quick succession.
