The three-dimensional structure of C_(60) and the thirty reactive double bonds between the hexagons inspired chemists to design and synthesize novel molecular structures with unique optoelectronic properties. Some of the bis- and trisadducts of C_(60) are inherently chiral, a property attributed to the addition pattern of the double bonds. The chiroptical properties depend mainly on the chiral arrangement of the p-electron conjugated system within the fullerene core and not on the nature of the tether.Therefore, the inherently chiral trisadducts of C_(60) are attractive molecular architectures not only from the synthetic point of view but also from the point of view of their utilization as chiral photocatalysts.
