Sulfenylhalides (R-S-X), sulfenylcyanides (R-S-CN) and sulfenylthiocyanates (R-S-SCN) may be considered as the derivatives of sulfenic acids (R-S-OH). Sulfenic acids though are unstable, have been frequently mentioned in relation to biological systems. The studies on bioactivity of Benzo-2- (4'-Nitrophenyl)-1-thia-2, 3-diazoliumbromide (I) 4'-Nitroazobenzene-2-sulfenylcyanide (II) & 4'-Nitroazobenzene-2-sulfenylthiocyanate (III) have revealed that all the three sulfenyl compounds possess distinct inhibitory properties against the strain of fungus, Mucor, which is a cosmopolitan saprophytic fungus living on dead organic matter. It spoils human foods like bread, jams, jellies, pickles and cheese. Mucor pusillus causes the disease 'mucormycosis' in man and some domestic animals which is pneumonitis in lungs.
