A Library of Immobilised Homogeneous Catalysts for Sequential Fine Chemical Synthesis(Abstracts)

When working in homogeneous catalysis, we often contradict ourselves by not reclaiming/separating the 'consumed' catalyst from the reaction mixture. This is an enormous waste, with high catalyst costs being a directing factor. Several techniques have been used to ease the separation of catalyst from substrates/solvents[1]: immobilisation on inorganic, polymeric[3], and dendritic[4] supports, and in biphasic systems[5]. Tandem, domino and sequential catalysis are of particular importance[6], because they take place in a one-pot, or a work-up-free multi-pot reaction vessel yielding a single product.
