Pitavastatin Improves Cardiac Function in Heart Failure with or without Ischemic Origins

This study aimed to examine the effects of pitavastatin on cardiac function and plasma BNP level in patients with HF. Twenty-three patients with HF were treated with pitavastatin (1-2 mg/day) in addition to standard therapy for 7.5+-3.8 months. During the follow-up period, LVEF was increased from 42.2+-11.1 to 48.3+-12.7 % (p<0.01). LVDs was redu-ced from 42.8+9.5 to 39.6+-9.8 mm (p<0.001), with no change in LVDd. These trends were detected in both ischemic and non-ischemic HFs. Plasma BNP level was significantly decreased, but not CRP. Other para-meters did not alter, including blood pressure and heart rate. Findings in this study suggest that pitavastatin may be beneficial for treatment of HF with or without ischemic origins.
