This study investigates the influence of fracture constitutive law, loading rate and frictional boundary condition on the rock dynamic fracture toughness, K_(ICd), measured by the semicircular bend (SCB) method. Using UDEC, rock material is modeled as an arbitrarily produced assemblage of elastic triangular particles interacting at their edges. The size of particles is taken as the average grain size of rock. The interface between the particles is numerically represented as a contact surface formed between two particle edges.
