Species delineation by ribosomal protein sequences, and identification of bacteria by MALDI to DNA databases.

MALDI can identify bacteria from sequenced genomes based on ribosomal proteins. Four clades of Shigella are thereby distinguishable from E. coli. They correspond roughly but not exactly to the named Shigella species. Similar (perhaps identical) clades have been defined by many others based on genomic similarity.
