Based on these results, it can be concluded that the DART-TOFMS is more a discriminating method than the ATR-FTIR method. Using PCA and cluster analysis, 9 different sub-groups were identified from the DART-TOFMS spectra; whereas, only 4 major sub-groups were observed within the IR data. The DART-TOFMS groups were primarily based on oligomeric PDMS peak ranges, scents, and plasticizers. The ATR-FTIR groups were primarily based on the PDMS doublet at 1060 and 1020 cm~(-1). The DART-TOFMS has been proven capable of rapidly characterizing silicone-based lubricants within 2 minutes no sample preparation.
