Identification of Persistent Pd-Containing Impurities Using LC-MS/MS and LC-ICP-MS

A combination of analytical techniques was used to probe the structure of two low level, persistent Pd-containing impurities in MK-8742. One impurity was identified as Pd complexed to a phosphine ligand. A second impurity was identified as Pd complexed to MK-8742. Knowing the structure of the impurities has assisted chemists in their development of a Pd control strategy for this important program.
