There is great public concern over the unexpected response of humans to pharmaceutical compounds in vaccines, especially adjuvants. An important consideration for novel therapeutic compounds is whether they are safe for the majority of people and provide better protection than the current licensed and available vaccines. Utilizing quantitative proteomics and systems biology approaches, we are comprehensively studying the response of human immune cells to compounds in vaccines. This novel systems biology approach allows us to carefully and meticulously evaluate and integrate immune cell responses induced by the compounds with protein expression signatures of human cells.
