Our results with the stroke-related rattlesnake venom toxins suggest that we should be able to identify and characterize those toxins involved in restoring blood flow following a hemorrhagic stroke. We expect that MALDI TOF/TOF will play an essential role in this characterization. The preliminary data examining geographically-related variations in the venom profiles for the three populations indicates that there are indeed variations within these profiles. The Harcuvar and Tinajas Atlas populations appear to have venom profiles more similar to each other than either does to the Apple Valley population.
