This year's STC conference is located in Las Vegas. Known variously as "sin city ", the "gambling capital of the world", and various other monikers, it's also known for the wide variety of magicians who grace their stages stunning audiences with their illusions. In many ways, we as technical writers have great similarities to those in the magical arts. Magicians weave their magic in the physical. We weave our magic in the minds of our readers. This paper will compare the arts of magic and illusion to the work we do by using current and historical magicians. It will also discuss what we can learn from that discipline and bring to our own. In the end we all want the same thing - for our audiences to believe in the magic we create.
