摘要

tert-Butyl peroxy-2-ethyl hexanoate (TBPO), an organic peroxide used as initiator for polymerization of ethylene, styrene, methyl methacrylate, and acrylonitrile, has the inherent characteristic of triggering highly exothermic reaction and releasing toxin gases. In the past, many serious fire and explosion accidents have occurred from organic peroxides. It is very important to completely understand the thermal hazard factors for organic peroxides. TBPO is tested to investigate the decomposition product and thermal stability parameters by thermogravimetric analysis-mass spectrometry (TGA-MS). We utilized different kinetic models and spectrometry technology to obtain various thermal hazard information, such as activation energy (E_a), frequency factor (lnk_0), reaction order (n), and decomposition products, as an efficient tool for establishing inherently safer processes and preventing thermal hazard accidents.
