THE E35.22 SYMPOSIUM AT 25 YEARS, STILL GROWING?

In 1980 the ASTM Committee E35 on Pesticides and its Subcommittee E35.22 held its first Symposium on Pesticide Formulations and Applications Systems. This year, 2004, marks the 25th anniversary of the series. This paper reviews the events that led to the first symposium and traces the growth of this series over the last 24 years. Over the years the presenters have represented registrants, suppliers, the regulatory community, academia, federal and state labs, and consultants. The venue has been used to explain, inform, teach, and challenge us about change in our Industry. What do these papers tell us about our organization? How do they reflect some of the regulatory events that have impacted our business? How has the level of contribution from these various sectors shifted over time? Does this provide us with any information as to what the future holds? If yes, how will we use this information? If no, what is next?
