The Alexander Hamilton Bridge is comprised of two parallel independent structures. The proposed rehabilitation requires the linking together of the two longitudinal halves of the bridge. This required complex analysis of the existing hingeless arch structures. Major modifications to the approach span girder framing are needed including adding exterior plate girders and interior trussed girders, to increase the overall redundancy of the framing; and splicing together of simply supported spans into two span continuous units.
