EXPERIMENTAL STUDY OF STATIC CONCENTRATOR MODULES WITH DIFFUSE REFLECTOR

Two prototypes of a static plane concentrator module (MEC-P) assembled with diffuse reflectors were manufactured: prototype A, with 615 mm × 315 mm × 60 mm, and prototype B, with 615 mm × 365 mm × 60 mm. These prototypes were installed in Porto Alegre, Brazil, on a surface sloped 48° to the horizontal plane, with the strings oriented to the east-west or north-south directions. The difference between the prototypes is the distance from the most external string to the edge of the module. Taking into account the optical concentration (COP) at the lowest irradiance on the rear face of the bifacial cells, we observed that the prototype B, with north-south oriented strings, presented the highest COP. Besides, this parameter is approximately constant during the period with higher irradiance for cloudless days. Operating temperatures of the prototypes ranged from 15°C to 26°C above the ambient temperature, similar to the temperature in standard modules.
