Improving Maintenance Strategies of Elevators and Escalators with Condition Monitoring

In the escalator market, public transit escalators represent about 50% of the total annual demand. As transit escalators are heavily and frequently used, e.g. in Metro systems and subways, equipment has to be designed to accommodate heavy duty conditions. In public transportation, the increase in ridership and the need to provide better accessibility for the disabled make elevators and escalators critical assets. In order to optimize their capability and availability, maintenance has to take less time and be carried out mainly during the night. Effective condition monitoring of critical equipment can contribute to a condition based maintenance strategy, enhancing not only elevator and escalator reliability and knowledge but also the Life Cycle Cost of these assets.
