An optimization of nanoparticle distribution by an unique manufacturing process with a twin screw extruder shows improvements of mechanical properties of polyamide-based compounds. The processing conditions was transferred to PEEK based tribomaterials which are highly interesting for heavily loaded applications. The mechanical and tribological behaviour of carbon fiber reinforced PEEK was clearly improved by commercially available, inexpensive nanoparticles. A comparison between 15 nm particles an 300 nm TiO_(2) particles show a reduced specific wear rate in case of 300 nm particles and clearly improved mechanical properties in case of 15nm particles. The dominating wear mechanisms are discussed based on micrographs of worn surfaces.
