Immunosupressive drug Cyclosporine A has renal toxic effects which limit its clinical use. Nephrotoxicity is related to ROS production and apoptosis, and mitochondrial alterations are strongly associated with these processes. In this work, we demonstrate that ROS are on the basis of mitochondrial network fission, which initiates the inner mitochondrial membrane permeabilization leading to apoptosis, since antioxidants pre-treatment avoided as well mitochondrial fission as apoptotic process.
