WHY DON'T WE DON'T RECYCLE REFRACTORIES IN THE USA?

This paper discusses the deterrents to refractory recycling in the United States. The author, a refractory recycler for over 40 years talks about some of the myriad reasons that manufacturers, consumers and suppliers to the refractories industry are reluctant to recycle refractories. It will present a historical overview of recycling in the past, discuss some of the energy advantages of recycling and using recycled products. It will look at some of the hazards associated with recycling, some of the cultural and economic issues affecting recycling decisions. Attendees will contribute in a discussion of the anticipated changes in refractory recycling options in the future.
