In order to promote recycling of waste slag, the authors have tried to apply hydrothermal reactions to create advanced materials from blast furnace slag. Under hydrothermal conditions, such as 200 approx 300 deg C and 30 approx 40MPa with H_2O, powders made of slag can be sintered to become solidified ceramics or glass materials. These conditions are more environmental -friendly than general sintering processes at high temperature because of low temperature and usage of H_2O. Some examples will be discussed on the application of hydrothermal reaction to recycling of blast furnace slag.
