Trace element composition of plants and animal tissues are of interest owing to an important role of trace elements in vital functions of living organisms. AAS, ICP-AES, and ICP-MS techniques are most widely used for trace and major element determining in biological samples. These techniques usually need dry or wet ashing of organic matrices and sample dissolving. A sample preparation procedure often requires special equipment such as autoclaves, microwave ovens, and so on. Sometimes the analyte losses and working solution contamination occur during the sample digestion. Therefore, interest in methods without dissolution of biological samples is reasonable. A two-jet arc plasmatron (TJP) is used effectively for analysis of powdered geological and mineral samples in Russia. The TJP capabilities for direct analysis of biological samples were studied. Biological objects have complicated organic or organomineral matrices. We investigated the effect of different biological matrices on analytical signal in TJP.
