Aims: To minimize the fresh water requirement in Indian sugar factories through recycling of treated waste water. Methods & Results: By adopting Do's & Don'ts practices. By segregation of low & high pollution load waste water drains. By recycling of low polluted & treated waste water. By adopting other miscellaneous measures. The fresh water requirement and waste water discharge of several sugar factories in India could be minimized to almost zero. The results are discussed. Significance of Study: With well planned "Prevention of Pollution" and "Water Management" techniques, it is possible to achieve zero pollution and zero fresh water requirement in sugar industry, for which encouragement and inspiration from the management, active participation ofstaff and alertness of workers on the spots are very essential.
