MERIS QUALITY CONTROL ACTIVITIES AND PREPARATION FOR THE OLCI INSTRUMENT

During recent years, operational support activities for the MERIS instrument on board ESA’s ENVISAT platform were the responsibility of the MERIS Sensor Performance, Product and Algorithm (SPPA) Team as part of the Instrument Data quality Evaluation and Analysis Service (IDEAS). Following the loss of contact with ENVISAT on 8th April 2012, the focus of SPPA activities moved from NRT support towards quality control of the MERIS processor and data archive. The SPPA Team worked with the MERIS Quality Working Group (QWG) in supporting the validation of the 3rd Reprocessing dataset, and work is now progressing to further improve the archive via a 4th reprocessing. This paper details some of the activities performed for both NRT and offline quality control for the MERIS instrument.
