Character of Insensitive RDX crystals by crystallization Process

In recent years, much interest has been generated in a quality of reduced sensitivity RDX. We have developed the RS-RDX by international attention. In many experience, the quality of RDX is dominantly determined by the crystallization process applied to production of these energetic materials. We have tested Hanwha RDX Class A and Class C produced by changed process condition for production of insensitive high explosive, and compared to normal RDX. In result, the RS-RDX produced by Hanwha Corp. is more insensitive than normal RDX. According to this fact, we designed crystallization process to produce insensitive RDX. In this research, RDX produced in different process is tested by LSGT(Large Scale Gap Test) using PBXN-109 formulation which is cast cure PBX(Plastic Boned Explosives), and we analyzed the RDX through a few method as physico-chemisty analysis, SEM and Image analysis. In summary, we successfully designed crystallization process to produce insensitive RDX.
