THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT AND SUSTAINABLE COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE: AN EMPIRICAL INVESTIGATION

Knowledge management systems have helped firms not only generate financial returns, but also achieve competitive advantage. In this paper we investigate the relationship between knowledge management and competitive advantage. The purpose of this paper is to consider how resource-based theory can be used to explain success with the adoption and use of knowledge management systems within organizations. Prior research has explored the applicability of resource-based theory to the IS/IT domain, mainly at the conceptual level. We propose an empirical study to apply the resource-based view of the firm to knowledge management systems.
