SYSTEMS THINKING AND THE THEORY OF CONSTRAINTS: METHODOLOGICAL DEVELOPMENTS IN THE USE OF THE TOC CONFLICT RESOLUTION PROCESS

This paper is one of a series showing how seemingly unrelated systems methodologies can be applied in complementary mode to a medical dilemma. It provides an illustration of how the Causal Loop Diagrams of System Dynamics and the Shifting the Burden archetype can be re-examined using TOC tools suggesting new ways for approaching such dilemmas. The paper also reveals methodological insights about the nature of TOC's conflict resolution process that allow it to capture the nestedness of conflict.
