The P9 Project Information Management Model (P9IMM) is a XML-based information model that provides a structure for organizing the disparate types of information related to a particular project -^sP9 projects, which is a mineral processing research project. The initiative of this research program is to approach a sufficient way to reasonably manage and query the P9 information which encapsulates our understanding of the domain knowledge. The P9IMM is an information structure. There are a variety of services external to the P9IMM that provide the means for generation and manipulation of the information in the structure, such as search, parsing, extracting useful information and assigning attributes, etc. This program is one of pilot studies of the proposed extensible Mineral Information Model (MIM) with the compatibility of GML. The P9IMM is a specific structure but fundamentally extensible in the sense that users are allowed to define new entities and types to accommodation other domains in the industry.
