The fierce battle in the marketplace has forced breweries to focus on in-house improvements. And indeed, there is a huge potential to reduce costs by re-engineering the supply chain processes. This is relatively virgin soil and by small efforts great improvements can be achieved. Today's brewery business is truly “glocal”. Local plants are often part of a network that normally extends beyond national borders and is sometimes truly global. However, very few brewery groups take advantage of the opportunities this structure offers. By introducing an “unbounded” approach, the group's collective production apparatus can be optimised in a cost-effective way.
