Supercapacitors can be used in several applications, in electric or hybrid vehicles in order to provide peak power for improved acceleration, or for energy recovery. They can be used in parallel with the vehicle battery during start up of an internal combustion engine or in fuel cell vehicles in order to reduce the power and therefore the cost of the fuel cell. This paper is about simulation and experimental realization of 42V hybrid power source with supercapacitor and battery for automotive applications. The supercapacitors pack is sized to provide 2kW during 10s in transient state and battery gives the power in steady state. Two DC/DC converters are used between battery supercapacitors and 42V DC Bus.
