Results of full-scale observations of the drift of icebergs during the spring expedition seasons of 2003 and 2004 in the Barents Sea area are presented. The iceberg drift velocities were determined using direct observations at the objects using a satellite GPS system, remote sensing from board the ship by means of a ship radar station and INMARSAT-S ice radio-buoys designed at the AARI. Statistical estimation of the drift of icebergs and separation of the tidal drift component were performed. A modal experiment for calculating the drift of a large tabular berg was undertaken. Encouraging results of determining the lower iceberg boundary by means of tracking the vertical structure of currents in the direct proximity from a bergy bit frozen into the ice floe were obtained.
