Cooling crystallizations of active pharmaceutical ingredients (API) from an insulator solvent were performed in the presence of a strong internal electrostatic field. The application of an electric field can localize the crystallization of APIfrom their pure component solutions. Co-crystals formed by two solutes, which crystallized on different electrodes from their pure component solutions, appeared on only one of the two electrodes in the presence of an electric field. In addition, an electric field was imposed upon crystal suspensions, which induced certain electromechanical motions of pure component crystals as well as co-crystals. Ongoing study of the effect of electric fields on multi-component solutions with different compositions can give even further understanding of the mechanisms behind these observations.
