The sequencing of the genome of Frankia alni strain ACN14a is being completed in collaboration with Genoscope (www.genoscope.fr/externe/English/Projets/ Projet _HF/HF.htmD. This strain was isolated from an Alnus viridis subsp. crispa growing in Tadoussac, PQ, Canada in 1982 (Normand and Lalonde, 1982). 140871 reads from 3 banks (94407 reads from the 3kb bank, 30350 reads from the 10kb bank and 16114 reads from the BACs) were used for a 12X coverage. Assembly of a temporary scaffold has yielded 11 ordered contigs. Gap closure is under way using a walking approach. This scaffold covers more than 7.5Mb and contains over 6800 CDS. The G+C is 72%, varying from 43 to 79% over 5000nt windows.
