Functionally Graded Steels (FGSs) are one of the main group of Functionally Graded Materials (FGMs) with elastic-plastic behavior which have recently been produced from austenitic stainless steel and carbon steel using electro slag refining (ESR) method by the present authors. In this contribution, the fracture behavior of u-notched specimens made of FGS under mode I loading in notch divider configuration is investigated. The well-known SED criterion is assessed to obtain the critical fracture load. Finally, the results are compared with the experimental values which shows a good agreement.
