The high temperature oxidation effect on thermal cracking and frature process in compacted graphite iron (CGI) was investigated through oxidation, thermal shock and iso-thermal fatigue test. The special oxidation behavior in CGI was caused by the inter-connected vermicular graphite phases, and the oxidation mechanism was also different for different surface oxide scales. Among oxidation atmosphere, graphite phases acted as the crack source and graphite-oxide network promoted the crack propagation, which was dominant in the fracture procss.
