Bolted glass is being increasingly used in buildings to enhance the 'transparency' of structures and to overcome the relatively small manufacturing sizes of thermally toughened glass plates. Despite their popularity there is a general lack of test date and design guidelines for these connections. This paper describes the research efforts in this area including the determination of glass strength and the influence of finite element modelling parameters on stress distribution. Guidelines for good practise modelling are provided.
